Zeezenderfan en webmaster van MediaPages.nl, Wim van de Water, heeft onverwacht flinke pech gekregen. Daarom heeft Ferry Eden het initiatief genomen om een donatieactie te starten, om Wim en zijn website een steuntje in de rug te geven.
Al ruim 25 jaar beheert Wim met enorme toewijding zijn hobbywebsite MediaPages.nl. In al die jaren heeft hij talloze liefhebbers op de hoogte gehouden van nieuws, verhalen en herinneringen rond de zeezenders — een stukje radiohistorie dat hij zelf bewust heeft meegemaakt. Wim (69) beleefde niet alleen het tijdperk van de zeezenders, maar was daarna ook actief bij diverse FM-piraten en lokale en regionale radiostations.
Na de grote Veronica-reünie in 1999 op 1224 AM in Lapershoek werd hij opnieuw gegrepen door het ‘zeezender-virus’. Met hulp van oud-medewerkers van de zeezenders groeide MediaPages in de afgelopen 25 jaar uit tot een onmisbare plek voor liefhebbers.
Een onverwachte tegenslag
Wim gaat altijd zorgvuldig om met beeldmateriaal en auteursrechten. Naar aanleiding van tips controleerde hij vorig jaar zelfs zijn complete archief van 25 jaar aan berichten en foto’s. Foto’s waarvan de rechten niet duidelijk waren, heeft hij direct verwijderd.
Toch ontving hij onlangs een bericht van het ANP: er stonden volgens hen nog negen foto’s op de website waarop zij rechten hebben. Ook deze heeft Wim meteen verwijderd. Maar ondanks dat moet hij alsnog ruim € 3.000 betalen.
Voor een commerciële partij is dat misschien te overzien, maar voor Wim is dit een flinke tegenvaller. MediaPages heeft hem in al die jaren nooit iets opgeleverd — integendeel, het kost hem geld. Hij leeft van een bescheiden pensioen, en dit bedrag hakt er dan ook stevig in.
Daarom deze actie
Vanuit betrokkenheid bij Wim en alles wat hij in de afgelopen 25 jaar heeft opgebouwd, heeft Ferry Eden deze donatieactie gestart.

Help Wim and MediaPages.nl – an initiative by Ferry Eden
Wim van de Water, an offshore radio enthusiast and webmaster of MediaPages.nl, has unexpectedly faced some serious setbacks. That’s why Ferry Eden has taken the initiative to launch a fundraising campaign to give Wim and his website a helping hand.
For over 25 years, Wim has managed his hobby website MediaPages.nl with tremendous dedication. Over the years, he has kept countless enthusiasts informed about news, stories, and memories surrounding the offshore radio stations—a piece of radio history that he personally experienced firsthand. Wim (69) not only lived through the era of the offshore radio stations but was also active afterward with various FM pirate stations and local and regional radio stations.
After the big Veronica reunion in 1999 on 1224 AM in Lapershoek, he was once again bitten by the “offshore radio bug.” With the help of former offshore radio staff, MediaPages has grown over the past 25 years into an indispensable resource for enthusiasts.
An unexpected setback
Wim always handles visual material and copyrights with great care. Following some tips, he even went through his entire archive of 25 years’ worth of posts and photos last year. He immediately removed any photos whose rights were unclear.
Nevertheless, he recently received a message from the Dutch News Agency ‘ANP’: according to them, there were still nine photos on the website to which they hold the rights. Wim removed these immediately as well. But despite that, he still has to pay over €3,000.
For a commercial entity, that might be manageable, but for Wim, this is a major setback. MediaPages has never earned him anything over the years—on the contrary, it costs him money. He lives on a modest pension, and this amount is therefore a significant blow.
