From the Boom Radio Newsletter: “You’ll remember the old pirate radio stations – beaming in the hits from their ships anchored in the dark seas – a welcome break from the BBC’s offering in those days. This Easter sees the 60th anniversary of the first UK pirate to come on-air. Radio Caroline broke the mould – setting the scene for other stations dotted around the waters like Radio London, Radio 270 and Radio Scotland. Our Roger Day was out on Caroline – after a spell on another pirate – Radio England: “It was where I was meant to be”. Join him on Boom Radio on Thursday March 28th as he marks the occasion fittingly with a special afternoon show from a ship just off Harwich! Later, there’s an evening of specials featuring others who spent time with Caroline, including Nick Bailey, Tom Edwards and Rosko! John Peters kicks off the evening of celebration at 6.00pm. Listen: Thursday March 28th” With thanks to Mike Terry |
